Report: | A rare victory for the Truro 4 team against a Falmouth 2 side depleted of their Talisman and main cheerleader the boy Peter D Keam.
Gary made hard work of the youthful 4th seed Tom who grew in confidence through the 5 games. Experience and lack of pace came through in the end.
Surely the victory of the evening was Si’s defeat of Dr Tom. Si kept his cool throughout- his well placed lobby serves were worth 4-5 points per game. Despite a dodgy No let against in the third game, Si’s came through in a 3-0 victory. This was his best result in a long time.
At No 2, the Master Dave Matthew was relentless with his accuracy of his drop shots. Alex battled gamely but he had no answer to Dave’s dogged mindset as he lost in 3. Another great victory
At No 1 , we were expecting a tighter game . The first point of the first game must have lasted 20 shots. We thought were in for the long haul, but Julian was simply outplayed . Huw’s short game coupled with his powerful forehand, made light work of Julian’s boundless energy as he won in 3.
All in all a very pleasant evening enhanced by the post match food as usual at Truro HQ. |

Notes: | A surprising win mostly explained by the unavailability of a few key Falmouth players. Peter K is obviously still nursing his back problems despite many sessions on the ‘masseuse’ table whilst away in the Med. His FB followers will know all about this! Huw v Jules must have been a tasty encounter especially as both love to run. That’s the opposite of captain Gary’s approach preferring shot accuracy to movement. The Master has still got it and for how many years have we been saying that! Man of the Match Si ‘Taimenator’ will be chuffed with his W! A second win for the Truronians in a tough season will boost their confidence and doubtless the number of celebratory comments on their WhatsApp group! |
