Report

Report:Really close one this with 3rd and 4th string players making all the difference. Unfortunately Tim Smith had to withdraw on the day with a knee injury so Ben Thorpe stepped in and recorded his first win in the 1st Division. Very good match with Christian, and at 1-1 it could have gone either way. But Ben's athleticism and pressure told in the last two games.

Owen has been steadily improving over the last few weeks. A very tough match against Matt was in prospect but Owen really played majestically. Although Matt competed in the first two games, by the 3rd Owen was playing his best squash of the year.

Next up was Louis vs Martin. In the first game Louis played calm and accurate squash to win 15-11. In the 2nd and 3rd game Louis lost his accuracy and played too many cross-courts onto Martin's racket. Martin's boast was really accurate and deceptive. The 4th game was close, with Martin managing to close-out 15-12. Good that Louis is back after a 2 week absence with a hip injury.

Jack played Jonny in the last game of the night. Jack knew that if he won a game Truro would win the match. It wasn't to be, with Jonny playing some great squash and winning in 3. This match had some great rallies and each game had Jack leading early on. But Jonny was too strong on the night.

So after all 4 matches games were level and after a count-up of points Truro won the match by just 5 points.

Administrator Notes

Notes:TR2’s youthful look showing clear signs of progress with Ben recording a first W and Owen really playing his best all season. In fact, Owen’s contribution clinched the win and the bonus points much needed after a few defeats. Add to that Louis doing well against Martin and Jack pressing hard against Jonny, and it’s pretty obvious the teenagers have gone up a clear notch! It’s great for Cornish squash and it’s great for the county junior side not to mention the positives for Truro School’s bid to be National Champs in the ES Schools’. Tim as their coach will delighted with this collective performance despite his cautionary absence ahead of his crucial East of England Masters’ this weekend in Norwich where a win should see him break into the top 10 in the UK. That too is great for Cornish squash! Both teams now can enjoy the festive season before the January restart with both Bodmin and NQY1 back in the top flight.
