Report: | Truro 3 gave a great performance tonight considering they fielded an under-strength team. Dave Matthew was awesome, taking Owen London to 5. Brilliant racket skills and touch from Dave, but Owen stayed focussed in the 5th and managed to close the match out. Fabulous contest and really compelling squash.
Louis Murray played with great patience and strength against Tim May who is getting back up to speed after recent injury. Louis' accuracy and short game in the 1st was very impressive and both Louis and Jack are unbeaten so far this season.
Jack Mahon versus Julian Roberts was close all the way and Julian pushed Jack in each of the three games. The 18-16 3rd was extremely exciting and both players played four-corner squash.
Rory Brickell showed great class and skill to beat Tim Smith in the 1st-String match 3-0.
Although Truro 2 won 3 of the 4 matches, they know that it may well be a different story in the return match later in the season. |

Notes: | I watched parts of all four matches. Some great squash on view and especially plucky efforts from my old team mates Dave and Julian who were in action only the evening before against Bude. A logical win for TR2 which reminds me of their strong showing this time last year. The reigning champs are characteristically slow starters, three of their number enjoying the Med on sun loungers with Del Boy-esque cocktails at their lips, I hear tell! Two others haven’t been seen for months which just left Tim and Rory wearing the shirt! TR2 certainly made the most of it! Might see a different approach for the Spring League, I suspect! Match of the Night: Owen v Dave! A cracker! PS Dave won 3-2 against Bude the night before coming from 2-0 down and winning 17-15 in the 5th! Amazing! |
