Report: | Brilliant match between Truro 2 and Truro 1 played in the best of spirits with some fantastic games of squash.
Great
At 4th string Zefran was always in control against Owen. But Owen is continually improving and played some great squash. Zefran is a very strong 4th string player and in the end his strength and racket skills won the day.
Louis Played some majestic and controlled squash against Steve in one of the best matches of the night. The game was full of fantastic sportsmanship and the quality of squash was superb. Both players made very few unforced errors and Steve was unlucky not to make it 2 games to 1 when he was 14-13 up in the third game. But Louis has found a steely calm that helped him to take that game and eventually the match. Brilliant squash from both players.
Jack and Neil played an extremely competitive game of squash. Neil's retrieving was exceptional as he continually got one extra ball back. Although Jack got closer in the 2nd and the 3rd could have gone either way, Neil was just too strong on the night. Another game of squash played at the highest standard.
Last up was Tim and George, playing the most competitive match of the night. The first game went 19-17 to George, and when he won the 2nd with phenomenal racket skills and attacking squash, it seemed he was looking at a 3-0 win. But Tim clawed his way back, playing punishing rallies finished with fantastic attacking shots of his own. After winning a very close 3rd, Tim then powered on to take the next 2 games 15-4, 15-9. Another fantastic game of squash between worthy 1st sting players.
So, Truro 1 won 12-6 on the night, but Truro 2 stay top of the table by one point. A great night of squash with really high-quality squash played with a really healthy sporting attitude by both teams.

Notes: | I watched the middle order play and the first between George and Tim. Brilliant night! I completely concur with the sentiments expressed in the home team’s captain’s report - thanks Alan - that this was a great example of competitive squash played in the right spirit in our county. Both teams really went for it with no quarter given and the quality of the rallying was at times right up there! Truro S&RC should be very proud of the high standard of squash their players produce and no-one should ever doubt the value of team nights to the well-being of the club and our sport! As County Chairman and Truro Club player of 35 yrs standing I was very proud to be present. With TR3 due to come out of hibernation in the second half and given that both TR1&2 are stronger teams this season, it all bodes well for TSRC’s challenge to retain the title. However, Bodmin and new signing Chris Adrian, if promoted which looks likely, and NQY with new signing Jamie Lang will be serious contenders for sure, not forgetting Falmouth who have strength in depth and good consistency. Indeed, this season will be full of tough matches just like last night’s and the domination of the last decade (and more, it’s been so long) will be seriously challenged. Only the best will prevail, as it should, and I predict many nights of great squash ahead. Happy days! |
