Away Report:' Newquay’s Cup team made the trip to Bodmin Dragons for the first round Pawle Cup. Mike Morgan (NQY, coming back from an injury) vs Andy Yardley was a see-saw afair, games going one way then the other. Mike having to use his experience to dig out a win in the 5th. Mike Batte (BOD) put in a great effort to sneak the first game against Dave Priem(NEW) before Dave’s shot play eased his journey to a 3-1 victory. Matt Waterton (NEW) got off to a blistering 2-0 start only for Rhys Parry (BOD) to claw his way back into the game and eventually win 3-2 on fitness. Another see-saw game saw the No 1s battle it out. Max Knightley(BOD) put an out of form Matt Harford (NEW) under extreme pressure producing his best squash all season if not ever, but Matts court skill and racket work ensured the win and the overall win for Newquay. A tough match at every rubber with Newquay just coming out as winners on this occasion.

Administrator Notes

Notes:The pick of the three ties with Max nearly pulling off the best win of his Squash career - 2-3 and 11-15 in the 5th. Surely this result will catch the eye of the county team selectors! Rhys came from 2 down to take the prize scalp of Matt whose touch play faded with his legs! The surprises continue with Andy going very close - 2-3 again - against Mike who must have been sweating more through nervous exhaustion than the running! Skipper Mike looked like he might follow his team mates in pushing the NOBs/NYGs combo to the wire by taking the first but then buckled under the power play of fellow skipper Dave who was the pick of his team on the night. It was a very close affair, almost a shock result, but at least Bodmin earned their ticket straight to the Hine Final as best ‘losers’ while Newquay have a tough ask away at Falmouth in the Pawle Semi. The ‘every point counts’ system is working a treat!!!
