Report

Report:First match of the season and a tremendous match it was, played with passion and fairness. The 3's played first, and their first game was very close; both players happy to play a length game. The second and third started to take their toll on Dave as Tim volleyed more, made counter drops and even put in a few boasts, ending with a great win.

Adrian and Ajit was a close encounter in the first game with some wild swings of scores from Adrian 7-2 up to 12-8 down for Adrian and then a run of 7 points -talk about an up and down game. The same occurred in game 2 with Ajit going from 10-2 up to 10-7 and then a runaway to 15-7. Adrian was feeling it fitness wise and this showed in the next two games, Ajit winning comfortably with his great retrieving and hard serving causing problems for the super skilful but little in the legs Cruse.
I think Nigel was surprised by the hard hitting, work rate and skilful game of Christian and he certainly could have nicked a game, particularly the second. Nigel served the best I have seen but Christian's high skil level allowed to return all but one of Nigel's very high serves. As the mathc progressed Nigel's hammer forehand meant Christian didnt see the ball at times. A close run first two games but in the third fitness was paramount and the oldie Nigel showed he is as fit, if not fitter, than anyone in the league.
New Pirates number 1 Jack Eadie played his first match and it was a corker, Tom running all over the place and making delicate drops from all over the court; both players doing some incredible retrieving. In the end it was more consistency from Jack and his amazing ability to keep the ball in play, and play lovely lengths, that stopped Tom, who could have nicked a game if he hadn't made so many errors going for tight drops. As referee it was a great game to mark, no controversy and players enjoying their games. Thanks to Dave and his team for making it a great night with Phil's curry taking the spoils.
